One of these Friday evening matches where everybody can take part in a team named after a private person - Lindner - or a team representing the public transport service - Personennahverkehrsgesellschaft (PNVG). Whether 66- or 16-year-old… But this time it was clearly to see, when arriving on the small ground with its wooden benches offering a seat to about 18 fans, set up between houses, fields and reed, that there is a favourite team concerning the players’ age: FC Lindner Kötzschen, representing a borough of Merseburg city. There were far more young players as usual in the ‘leisure time teams’ - and PNVG’s average age seemed to be at about 50 years.
As expected, Kötzschen dominated the match. Nonetheless, there was no regular goal scored until the 35th minute. Before the nice hammer against the inside of the left post dropping down behind the line in minute 35, Lindner Kötzschen scored two offside goals.
Right after the break, Lindner ran through the PNVG defence and scored another goal. Moreover, the match became even better but more one-sided, so Lindner added 4 more goals to their tally as numerous chances went begging.
6:0 - another clean defeat against the bus drivers.
The main reason why we watched this match was that we never visited that ground before. And Sportplatz FC Lindner is one of the 11 grounds in Merseburg that are used for official and unofficial matches. Grounds that are for training matches only or not in use anymore do not get attention from me, unless they have stands or terraces. However, my list of Merseburg grounds is completed now: Stadtstadion, Ottoweg, Ulmenweg, Stadtstadion Nebenplatz I, Sportplatz Blösien, Sportplatz am Kanal Meuschau, Glück Auf Kampfbahn Beuna, Sportplatz an der Querfurter Straße Knapendorf, Scheitplatz, Eisenbahnerstadion and, finally, Sportplatz FC Lindner.
