Friendly: Schönebecker SV v SG Gnadau on Clay Pitch

Nach einer Trainingseinheit in Schneidlingen zur Mittagszeit wollten wir auch noch beim Fußball zuschauen. Dazu bot sich das Testspiel in Schönebeck einfach zu sehr an. Auf dem Hartplatz des Sportforums, einer wirklich schönen Anlage (aufgrund des Hauptstadions), trafen der Schönebecker SV, in der Landesliga Nord auf Platz 3 hinter dem Stadtrivalen SSC, und die SG Gnadau, 11. in der Kreisoberliga Salzland, aufeinander.

Der Hartplatz ist über einen Weg, der an der KFV-Geschäftstelle links vorbeiführt, erreichbar und bietet locker 1.000 Stehplätze an einer in den Vereinsfarben rot und weiß gestrichenen Metallreling sowie auf dem niedrigen Graswall hinter dem einen Tor und teilweise auch auf den höheren, aber teils zugewucherten Graswall auf der einen Längsseite. Kurioserweise befinden sich die Wechselbänke rechts und links des einen Tores.

Vor 15 Zuschauern legten beide Teams ein gutes Spiel hin. Es dauerte erstmal eine Weile, bis die beiden Mannschaften in Fahrt kamen, doch nach dem 1:0 aus spitzem Winkel von Schönebeck nach 18 Minuten, wurde das Spiel stetig besser. 2:1 stand es bei Halbzeit. Nach der Pause wurde das Spiel noch besser und Gnadau erreichte den Ausgleich nach einem harten Zweikampf zwischen dem Schönebecker Torwart und einem Gnadauer Stürmer. Nach der erneuten Führung hatte der Gastgeber die Chance mit dem 4:2 die Entscheidung zu erzwingen, doch der zweifelhafte Foulelfmeter wurde vom Torwart der Gnadauer pariert. Fast im Gegenzug gab es ein eindeutigeres Foul im Strafraum, das zu Recht zu einem weiteren Elfmeter führte. Diesmal halt für den Gast aus dem nahe Schönebeck gelegenen Dorf das zur Gemeinde Barby zählt. Dieser Strafstoß wurde souverän im unteren linken Eck untergebracht. Doch beim Unentscheiden blieb es nicht: ein Torwartfehler und ein Abstauber aus 5cm Entfernung und schon stand es doch noch 5-3.

Wie gesagt: ein wirklich sehenswertes Spiel da auf dem Ascheplatz und der Kreisoberligist hat toll mitgehalten!

Schönebecker SC v TSG Calbe (Landesliga)

Da ich ja noch in Staßfurt war, besuchten meine Freundin und ich das nächstgelegene Freitagsspiel des Schönebecker SC. Dort sollte eigentlich am Stadion der Alte Groundhopper auf uns treffen, aber der rief rechtzeitig vorher an, sodass wir ihn in Sandersleben mit dem Auto abholen konnten. Der Zug von Halle war ausgefallen, so musste er eine andere Route nehmen und auch da war es ein Wunder, dass er irgendwie in die Nähe des Spielortes kam. Auf dem Rückweg dann mit der verhurten Drecksbahn auch nur Probleme. Natürlich keine Probleme mit unserem Auto bei unserem Rückweg bzw. dem Weg zum Treffen mit der besten Freundin meiner Freundin.

Der SCC war jedenfalls mit einem souveränen 4:0 Sieg in Potzehne gestartet und somit gleich an der Tabellenspitze gelandet. Calbe verlor ihr erstes Spiel mit 1:2 gegen Schönebecker SV. Gegen den Stadtrivalen schienen sie halbwegs mithalten zu können, aber gegen den SSC hatte sie keine Chance. Kaum ein Angriff aufs Tor und nach einem recht lahmen Beginn dann immer wieder gute Aktionen der Schönebecker, die auch bis zur Pause für zwei Tore sorgten. Nach der Pause war in einem guten Spiel dasselbe Bild zu sehen: wieder zwei Tore der klar überlegenen Gastgeber – 4:0 der Endstand.

Das Spiel fand vor mindestens 300 Zuschauern im weitläufigen Leichtathletik- und Fußballstadion in der Magdeburger Straße statt. Auf beiden Längsseiten verfügt die Anlage über Ausbauten, wobei auf der Kleingartenseite unspektakuläre, schmale Betonstufen sind und auf der Seite hinter der sich die Nebenplätze befinden, ebensolche Betonstufen, nur in der Mitte von einem Durchgang mit auffälliger Sprecherkabine und kleiner Anzeigetafel unterbrochen, und rechts und links des Durchganges mit Holzbänken bestückt.

This time we travelled more kilometres by train than by bike, but the bike route wasn’t too short. After we arrived at Schönebeck, a town several kilometres south of Magdeburg, we jumped off the train and made our way by bike. First, we had a look at the few sights of that town that doesn’t deserve its name meaning probably “beautiful stream/ creek” - that stream is a big river (Elbe) and that town isn’t beautiful nor is the river in particular. Among the sights are some architectural details at some private homes and a church that changed its outfit so often, that you have a mixture of several architectural styles now.
Then, we rode 6km by bike to Plötzky, a village near Schönebeck on the other shore of the river Elbe. Plötzky has a beautiful Romanesque church. So has neighbouring village Pretzien. While we could have a look inside the church in Plötzky, the - concerning the exterior - more beautiful church in Pretzien was closed.
Several kilometres on, we arrived at Dornburg, a small village in the middle of the nature, relatively far away from the next city, which has a spectacular baroque castle. It needs renovation, which partially started so far. That’s the reason, why you are not allowed to enter the castle. Nonetheless you may enter the church, although it is under renovation, too. You can even ascend the pulpit and walk on the third gallery. Flanking the church lays a small restaurant, were we ate a Schnitzel.
Then we went on to Leitzkau, were a far more spectacular castle is situated. That one does not need restoration work, but it is not regularly open to public though. The castle was built right beside a monastery. There are still people living in the farm buildings of the castle, but at least the buildings look very shady. If that castle would be situated in Eastern Europe, I would bet there were Romany living.
Next stop: Lindau. Lindau is a well known town situated on the shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) - and a small village east of Magdeburg. There is a round castle - not very well preserved due to wars in the 17th century and earlier, but under restoration - on a small hill.
Our last stop was Loburg, were we simply took a photo of the fortification tower, an industrial building, the town hall and finally the castle - which was closed - and then hurried to catch the train to Magdeburg. The next time we will visit Loburg - probably next season, when there is another handball match or an easy to access football match (the next football match in Magdeburg we want to watch will be played next week and we will not have time for sightseeing then) - we will have a look at the modern church and the ruined church, that we saw from distance only.
After our arrival in Magdeburg, we ate something in our favourite Turkish restaurant, and then rode to the sports hall “Bördelandhalle” were SC Magdeburg faced Stralsunder HV. SC Magdeburg struggles for the international positions, while Stralsund is already relegated. And so did they play. Stralsund was so weak, that there is no need to describe the match with many words. That team is a caricature of a professional handball team. A laugher! They should be relegated to Kreisliga!
SC Magdeburg just played how an average German professional team has to play and easily gained a clean victory by 35:16 goals. 19 goals difference! Unfortunately, I can’t appreciate the match high, because Magdeburg played all right and Stralsund ridiculous.

WE132III: Football and Handball in Merseburg and Weißenfels

We did not know of that match until the evening of the day before when we came by from a match in Leuna.
Although the ground in the idyllic but wrecked Railwaymen-Stadium was muddy, both the teams played a friendly match. The good thing of a muddy and wet ground is that they players have to show all their skills. Unfortunately, the players of both teams did not have many skills. Of course they don’t need to have so, but the match was weak even compared to other in that low amateur level.
In the first half, the railwaymen were better and had more chances. Some nice tackling were shown too, and after a short while, ESV Merseburg scored easily after a mistake in the defence of the team from Halle-Ammendorf that plays one league higher.
In the second half, Ammendorf managed to use two of their ten chances, so they won two on one goal. ESV wasted about 10 chances and the second and 12 in the first half. The second half was weaker by both teams, by the way, than the first one.
There is no need to lose any words about the visitors, officials or catering, I just must repeat that Eisenbahnerstadion is really worth a visit although, unfortunately, it is not used regularly. The biggest problem is that the pitch is a bit large (110x65m), but if they would carry the goals a bit inside the field and mark the lines according to it, they would have a 90x45m ground which is ideal for lower amateur league, leisure time and old boy’s matches. Now in winter, by the by, the stands hold about 700 people, while in summer, the capacity is weakened to about 300 places due to lush vegetation.

We needed more than an hour by bike to arrive in Weißenfels, a city that cannot be recommended for bike tourism but for basketball- and castle-hopping.
This time, we watched handball matches inside a sports hall that were unknown to us until that day.

We arrived almost 15 minutes too late to the first match, a match of the men’s lowest division that was characterised by beginners’ mistakes but interesting though. There were many goals scored and it was an even match until five minutes before the end and a fair match all the time, just disturbed by stupid remarks of players and officials from Naumburg from time to time.
Most of the fans remained silent and the catering we tried after that match was not so good.
Weißenfelser HV 23:23 Lok Schönebeck

Afterwards, the women played their match in the third division. It was an even match, but Weißenfelser played a bit better. Just their goalkeeper was disturbingly week. Compared to other women’s matches, it was a good one. The usual women’s division problem - below the highest or the two highest levels, women sports is lame - is among others true for handball.
The most thrilling moment of the match was the end. Furthermore, it was the loudest and most emotional. Three minutes before the final whistle, Weißenfels had scored 22 goals, Lok 20. Then Schönebeck was awarded a 7m-penalty which was successfully scored. The equalised shortly after that, but WHV went on top once again. Then they got a two-minute time-penalty and a ridiculous red card. Finally, Lok Schönebeck even got another penalty donated, which made some home fans angry. The penalty was scored and 23 all was the final result.
